Heightened awareness about data in the backdrop of tougher privacy policies and the government’s digitisation push are factors driving growth for Dell EMC in India, said a top official.

Dell EMC’s product range includes server, storage, PCs, networking and data protection. Its solutions include digital, IT and workplace transformation, data analytics and security.

In India, all of the company’s offerings have room for growth given the large and educated population, geographic diversity and increasing digitisation. “This makes India attractive for us and is one of the key focus areas for the company,” David Webster, President, Dell EMC, APJ-Enterprise Sales and Customer Operations, who was recently here, told BusinessLine . Webster explained that digital transformation means companies have to change their IT infrastructure including servers, storage and PC. While Webster said that all products are growing at the same rate, the merger with Dell two years ago has helped strengthen its PC segment. The synergy with Dell post the merger has benefited Dell EMC in this space, he added.

The company has a market share of 30-40 per cent in each segment. The 2017 IDC report stated that Dell EMC ranks first in the Indian storage market with 43.4 per cent by revenue. Dell EMC Unity Storage is one of the fastest growing storage products recording $1 billion revenue in its first year, the report said.

The company has two R&D centres in India. It has worked on government projects such as building IT infrastructure for Aadhaar. Currently, it is working with three banks in India including State Bank of India and leading telecom partners in the country.

According to Webster, the company is seeing huge opportunities in the security portfolio, where it has both hardware and software products. With millennials entering the workforce companies need to look at ways to retain them by stepping by its technological offerings such as innovative design, PC management and AI.
