The domestic mobile gaming market, which generates ₹400 crore in revenue, and is home to 100 million mobile gamers, is set to explode over the next three years, fuelled by the growing demand for casual mobile games.

“Mobile gaming has taken off in India over the last 12 months with 45 million downloads of casual mobile games per month. The games downloaded span genres such as board games, card games, realtime strategy games, builder games and puzzle games.

“They are free to download, involve simple game-play where each session takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes to complete; and are popular with gamers from ages 5 to 65.

By 2018, mobile gaming will generate ₹2,000 crore in revenue and the number of mobile gamers will scale the 400 million mark,” Manish Agarwal, CEO, Reliance Entertainment Digital, told BusinessLine .

In Bengaluru to host the international mobile gaming conference – Pocket Gamer Connects – to be held from April 16-17, in partnership with UK-based media gaming company Steel Media, Agarwal said: “It is time to expose the domestic mobile gaming industry to the global heavyweights. Pocket Gamer Connects is an international mobile gaming conference that is held every year in San Francisco, Helsinki and London. We decided to bring it to India and chose to host it in the tech city of Bengaluru as it is a gaming development hub where the young Indian developer community can interact with the who’s who of the global mobile gaming community and be inspired to build the next billion dollar game from India.”

The event has 430 participants from across the country, who will meet 40 global game publishers known for games such as Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Candy Crush Saga, Warhammer 40000:Carnage; and get to meet investors, publishers and government representatives.

One of the highlights is the finale of the pan-India Gaming competition – Game Hack, a culmination of over 400 Indies (independent game developers) from Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kochi who went through the qualifying rounds over the last 6 months, of whom 28 developers will participate in the Big Indie Pitch format.

The winner will take home ₹10 lakh cash prize along with incubation, publishing, investment support and global media exposure.
