DQE profit rises in Q4 to Rs 19 cr

DQ Entertainment (International) Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 19 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2011, as against Rs 13.1 crore in the same quarter previous year. The net income grew to Rs 78 crore (Rs 75 crore) during the quarter.

Contribution from animation segment saw an increase to Rs 75.20 crore in the quarter from Rs 58.24 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Gaming segment, however, saw a dip to Rs 52 lakh from Rs 12.24 crore in the comparable quarter. Revenues from distribution segment decreased to Rs 2.5 crore from Rs 15.8 crore.

“There will be enhanced market demand for 3D content in television and feature films. We hope to bring theatrical 3D experience into the homes of TV viewers globally,” Mr Tapaas Chakravarthi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DQE, said.

Giving an outlook for 2011-12, he said animation and special effects would continue to be a significant constituent of the global film and TV industries. “While the market share of animation productions accounted for only seven per cent of the films released in 2010, they accounted for 45 per cent of the ticket sales and box office collections. This trend will continue in 2011-12,” he said.

Full-year profit up

The company posted revenue of Rs 207.57 crore for the year ended March 31, 2011, as against Rs 175.47 crore. Its net profit went up to Rs 30.54 crore from Rs 26.67 crore.

Mr Chakravarthi said the company would open up new delivery formats such as online and mobile platforms. “Content for these platforms would be a focus area,” he said.

Staff costs for the year went up to Rs 81.5 crore from Rs 63.51 crore in previous year.
