Flock, a real-time enterprise messaging and collaboration app, has witnessed a 233 per cent month-on-month growth in the number of licences sold since the paid version was introduced in January this year.

The app has garnered 1,35,000 weekly active users across 30,000 organisations worldwide, fuelled by robust demand from the US, India and the UK.

“Flock is adding 8,000 new enterprise teams this year compared to 1,200 a year ago. We aim to reach half a million users in the next 12 months,” said serial entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Flock, Bhavin Turakhia. After investing $20 million when Flock was incorporated in 2014, Turakhia has invested a further $25 million in the entity.

According to Turakhia, a survey of 600 companies using Flock revealed that over 50 per cent witnessed an increase in productivity by 40 per cent; reduction in meetings by 60 per cent; decrease in emails by 40 per cent and increase in knowledge sharing by 100 per cent, within three months of switching to Flock as the communication medium within the organisation.

The app’s Net Promoter Score is 33 as against the industry benchmark of 28–40 for software product. Flock’s users include teams from Dietitians on Demand, Ituran, Tim Hortons, Victorinox 1mg, Gini & Jony, Yepme, Ricoh, Drivezy, ConvertCart, Coupon Duniya, among others.

Stating that the information shared on Flock is encrypted through and through, Turakhia said: “Our aim is to be the most secure channel of communication. We are SOC 2 compliant and will be compliant in HIPAA, ISO 27001 and GDPR in the next two quarters.”

While the base Flock app is free, users have to purchase a license to be able to use the premium features on the app.

“We have differential pricing in the US and India. It is $3 per user per month in the US and ₹149 in India for the same, which is roughly half that of Slack’s premium which is $6.67,” said ,Turakhia adding that the enterprise messaging market is expected to grow to a $5-10 billion market in the next 10 years. Currently, there are 6-7 million users of enterprise messaging apps worldwide, including Flock, Slack, Stride, Microsoft Teams and Workplace by Facebook. Of the 6-7 million, only two million are paid users, he said.

Flock rolled out a new feature, a first in the market, called Process Automation that makes it easy for users to create and customise everyday office processes like leave applications, task lists and reimbursement claims. “The challenge we face in the India market is a lack of awareness about enterprise messaging,” said Turakhia. “Our goal for the US market is growth. For the Indian market, our goal is to create and strengthen the category.”
