Alten, the French information technology company, is set to enter the Indian market through its recent acquisition of Calsoft Labs from the Chennai-based California Software Company for Rs 100 crore.
“We have a good presence in Europe while the acquisition will help us to use India as a delivery centre and also look at doing business here,” according to Mr Gerald Attia, Deputy CEO, Alten, a €917-million company employing 12,600 globally.
The Paris-based company carries out design and research projects for technical and IT divisions of major clients in industry, telecoms and services. It wants to use Calsoft Labs as a medium to foray into these sectors in India, he told Business Line .
For Calsoft Labs, which develop technology products (like telecom) for various clients, nearly 80 per cent of its revenue comes from the US and the balance from India. Alten wants to take Calsoft Labs' products into Europe and bring its products to the India market, he said.
Some of the other French companies that have significant presence include Steria, CapGemini and Logica, he said.
Headcount
Mr Attia said Alten will double the number of employees working in Calsoft Labs to around 1,300 in the next couple of years. At present, Calsfot Labs has revenue of around €25 million with a target to increase by 20 per cent this year, he said. Alten last year set up its own operations in India and employs around 50 people in its Bangalore centre. This centre will continue to be involved in design, development and testing of products, he said.
No effect on the JV
The acquisition of Calsoft Labs will not have any effect on the existing relationship that Alten has with the Hyderabad-based Infotech Enterprises.
Alten is a preferred supplier of EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space) company, a global pan-European aerospace and Defence corporation and a leading Defence and military contractor worldwide. The joint venture with Infotech is to provide engineering solutions to EADS. The relationship is till 2012, he said.
