Google Inc will build a two-million square feet campus in Hyderabad, its first in Asia.

The firm is likely to spend about ₹1,000 crore to build the facility that can house 13,000 employees when fully ready. Representatives of the firm have signed a memorandum of understanding at Mountain View (the US) with the officials of the Telangana Government on Monday.

The facility is expected to be completed and operational in four years.

Pact with Telangana The agreement has been signed during the visit of Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao to Google’s headquarters as part of his two-week tour to the US, seeking investments in the IT industry to the new State.

Google’s Global Head of Facilities and Workplaces David Radcliffe held a meeting with the visiting minister. The pact calls for allocation of seven acres at Gachibowli, the hub of global IT and BPO majors.

When fully built, the campus will be the second largest facility globally for Google globally outside of the US. The search engine major already has a facility in Hyderabad with 7,000 employees

Quoting David Radcliffe, a government statement said the firm would take about 12 months to prepare a plan. Work would start in 2016.

StreetView project Meanwhile, Google has agreed to pick Hyderabad for its StreetView project after it gets the nod from the Central government.

(Street View is a tool in Google Maps that gives panoramic view of streets, roads and monuments. The firm uses cars, treks and bicycles, fitted with cameras, to capture the images and collate them to give the users a 360 degree views. Security concerns too forced the firm to put the Street View project on hold in several countries. The firm is in talks with the Union Home Ministry to get a green signal.)

The Telangana government delegation, led by the Minister, also met Google Street View Director (Product Management) Manik Gupta.

“The Union Government is expected to give the permission shortly. Once its gets permission, the firm agreed to complete Street View project in Hyderabad before extending it to other parts of the country,” the statement said.
