Infosys has been asked to send more technically qualified persons to States to resolve GSTN glitches.

Addressing the media, the Group of Ministers (GoM) chaired by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said Infosys personnel will coordinate with State tax administrators and will deploy more technically qualified persons to resolve GSTN glitches, which has dogged businesses in filing their taxes.

The meeting was held in closed doors and lasted around four hours, during which the GoM met Infosys employees working on the GSTN project.

“Infosys has already deployed their persons to each and every State, but we have asked for more technically qualified persons,” he added.

Further, Modi also said Infosys will contact dealers who have not filed their detailed GSTR-1 returns for July. “It was decided in the meeting that Infosys will contact the dealers, who have already filed summary GSTR-1 returns, to comply with filing their detailed GSTR-1 returns for the month of July,” he said.

The business community has been lamenting about the the GST network, which crashed frequently and call centres as well as physical outlets not helping tax filers. When asked whether the government will seek to address these issues, Modi said that such concerns have been discussed and will be resolved, adding that there will be some ‘teething’ problems.

However, he dispelled the notion that Infosys’ network backbone is not strong enough to withstand the GST load, saying that as on August 20, 15.29 lakh returns were filed. On August 21, 13 lakh returns were filed on a single day, pointing to the robustness of the IT system.

Modi stated that 43.58 tax payers have filed their returns for the month of August, which is a three-fold increase compared to July, when GST was implemented. He also reiterated the last date for filing of GSTR-1 is October 10.
