The war against hackers never ends. Kaspersky, the Moscow-based Internet security solutions firm, is the latest victim of an international clique of hackers. In fact, it is not the only victim. Some high profile meetings between top global leaders, diplomats too were the victims in the latest attack that shook those working in the realm of Internet security.
The attack was sophisticated that it could dodge the security radars quite a while as hackers snooped over files.
Reports suggest that the clique could sneak malware into Kaspersky’s high security laboratories and lurked there for over a year, snooping into its some profile investigations.
Kaspersky has admitted to the attack and said that it detected a cyber-intrusion affecting several of its internal systems. It claimed that the sophisticated was attack backed by a nation-State.
Attack detected
“We were a target of the Duqu 2.0. campaign, a carefully planned cyber espionage attack carried out by the same group that was behind the infamous 2011 Duqu APT,” a Kaspersky executive said, confirming the attack.
It claimed that it was not the only target of the present attack.
“We have found victims in the West, in the Gulf and in Asia. Some of the new 2014-2015 infections are linked to high level meetings between world leaders, foreign dignitaries and politicians, related to the negotiations with Iran about a nuclear deal,” the executive said.
“They were quite sure that they would stay under the radar. But our experts and technologies managed to detect it. We managed to catch one of the most advanced APT actors,” the firm said.
It claims that its clients and partners are safe and that there is no impact on the company’s products, technologies and services. “The information accessed by the attackers is in no way critical to the operation of the company’s products,” it said.
