Looking for a plumber to fix the leak in your tap connection or a carpenter to complete some wood work at home? Finding the right plumber or carpenter for such small jobs is not always easy.
“Not any more though,” says Vijay, founding-partner of helpr.in, a tech startup.
Bringing to mind his own plight, Vijay said: "When we first moved in here, we could not get a plumber to fix the tap leak. Not that there aren’t any, but plumbers do not look for small errands.”
“Around the same time, another batch-mate of mine – Rajesh was in a fix as some gas leak from an appliance in his home impacted his daughter’s health. This brought us together and thus was born helpr.in”.
The company, co-founded by Vijay, Vignesh and Rajesh – alumni of PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore, provides on-demand household service such as cleaning, electrical, plumbing, pest control, carpentry etc through mobile app.
“We have been building innovative products for smartphones since 2009,” Vijay told BusinessLine .
Helpr.in, which was launched in August last, joined hands with Avon Facility Management Services to ensure ready supply of workers for carrying out household services.
The company has, since the launch of this app-based service from Bangalore, expanded its footprint into Coimbatore, Mumbai and Pune. It is gearing up to further spread its wings further to be in 23 Indian cities by end 2016.
“On any given day, we find that people across cities look for household service agencies to carry out such works. While getting the right person itself has been a problem, there is apprehension about safety and letting strangers in with their tools/ implements. Our app-based approach not only offers prompt on-demand service, but also imbibes confidence amongst the customers considering that our partner Avon takes care of all other issues such as doing the background check of the service professional.”
“We have a team of 22,000 plus in-house, police verified and background checked professionals,” he added.
