Technology business incubation and entrepreneurship mentoring centre in Ahmedabad - iCreate - is now looking at encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in the two emerging industries of electric vehicles (EV) and blockchain technology.

Speaking to BusinessLine , Anupam Jalote, CEO, iCreate, said the incubation centre has received 17 project proposals for the electric vehicles sector. "We are looking at innovation on the component side. Battery management, charging management, motor controllers, artificial Intelligence leading to autonomy, among others. Of the 17 shortlisted project proposals, we plan to incubate 10 projects," said Jalote.

"Apart from the existing projects, we are looking at the two sunrise industries of EVs and blockchain technology. The selection panel is in progress for EVs, while blockchain technology will be taken up in 7-8 months. There is immense scope for innovation in these two areas and we want to encourage entrepreneurship through these sectors," said Jalote.

Earlier in February this year, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had clarified the Government's stand to explore the use of blockchain technology pro-actively for ushering in the digital economy. iCreate, has so far completed 100 projects by supporting them financially or through mentorship at its incubation centre.

iCreate recently started a programme called Litmus Test - a six-week programme for entrepreneurs to give them a real-life scenario for their products or ideas. "The ideas and products are tested before they are commercialised. We bring their customers here, who give them feedback on the changes required and their expectations on the product," said Jalote.

Recently, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) organised a workshop at iCreate campus near Ahmedabad on ‘Startup Ecosystem: Knowledge Sharing’ on April 11 and 12. iCreate was one of the three incubators chosen as one of the venues. During the discussions, the topics covered included best practices, industrial policies, framework and funding practices.
