Planning to purchase an MTS mobile connection or data card? Before making the decision, the company recommends you check out the availability of its services using a network coverage locator on a smartphone or a computer.

“This would probably be the first time in India someone has come up with this kind of graphical user interface for customers. This is an India-centric initiative to check coverage in a particular area and ensure our services do not fall in a shadow area,” Rajeev Batra, Chief Information Officer (CIO) at MTS India, told BusinessLine in an interaction. “All operators have dark spots even in cities and this is an effective way to find out the quality of coverage in a region,” he added.

GIS-based software

The service – MTS Network Coverage Locator – is a (GIS) Geographic Information System-based service that can be accessed over a smartphone or a computer. The service first tracks the location of users and enables them to check the quality of service by keying in their address.

The locator supports major Internet browsers such as IE 9+, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera, with instant updation of network coverage.

Store location

In addition, it also helps customers to locate nearest MTS branded retail stores and provides driving directions to the store.

Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL), which offers telecom services under the ‘MTS’ brand name, has loaded the platform on its website.

The service is available across the company’s nine circles – Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, West Bengal, Gujarat, Delhi, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh (West) – in the country.
