Omega Healthcare, a provider of healthcare outsourcing services, has entered into an alliance with AAPC to upgrade more than 2,000 employees as AAPC-certified coders.

AAPC is America's largest medical coding training and certification association. This certification will be provided free-of-cost to employees, company officials said in a statement.

Further, employees can choose from core certifications such as CPC, COC, CIC, along with 20 other speciality certifications. This training course will consist of 100–150 hours of training, and will include three mock assessments, company officials said.

Gopi Natarajan, co-founder and CEO of Omega Healthcare, said conversion of the ICD-9 to ICD-10 coding system, to be implemented this year, has provided a great impetus to the healthcare outsourcing industry.

Omega has certified 500 coders with AAPC certifications.
