Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd has changed its name for the second time since its inception in 1989 to Sasken Technologies Ltd effective February 14 to reflect its broad portfolio of services.
The BSE and NSE-listed company had earlier changed its name from Silicon Automation Systems Ltd to Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd in 2000, as it had decided to focus on communication as the key vertical.
Rajiv C. Mody, Chairman, Managing Director & CEO, Sasken Technologies told BusinessLine , “This is the second time we are changing our name. Today, the convergence of computing, communications, mobility, cloud, social media and analytics has made communications a core and vital ingredient across industries.
“Sasken is always aligned with the ever-changing technology landscape. We, therefore, decided to change our name to reflect the work we currently do. We serve customers in industries ranging from automotive, smart devices and wearables, industrial automation, enterprises, satellite, and retail, among others.
“Our new name suggests the vast opportunity landscape before us and our unique positioning as a chip to cognition Product Engineering and Digital Transformation company.”
The name change comes at a time when Sasken has set an ambitious target to more than triple its revenue base of $72 million to $250 million by 2021.
To achieve this, the company has strengthened its senior leadership team, added 20 new customers over the last few quarters and built a solutions portfolio for nine industry verticals. “While the intent behind the name change is welcome, more needs to be done internally and communicated to stakeholders for them to take the name change seriously,” observed Sanchit Vir Gogia, Chief Analyst & CEO of Greyhound Research.
According to Mody, Sasken’s IP (protocol stack) is present in over a billion devices between Spreadtrum and Mediatek. “Two million cars in the world have our in-vehicle infotainment systems and we have designed and developed satellite phones for UK based, Inmarsat which has sold 500,000 units to date.”
Sasken provides Product Engineering and Digital Transformation services to global tier-1 customers such as Qualcomm, British Telecom, Honeywell, Sony, Inmarsat, Harman, Motorola Solutions, Texas Instruments, GE etc.
