Facebook recorded a net profit of $791 million, a 138 per cent increase over the second quarter last year, the social media network said on Wednesday.
Revenue rose 61 per cent, to $2.9 billion, compared to $1.8 billion a year earlier.
Mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 62 per cent of advertising revenue for the quarter, the statement said.
“We had a good second quarter,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and chief executive, in the statement. “Our community has continued to grow, and we see a lot of opportunity ahead as we connect the rest of the world.”
The number of monthly active Facebook users reached 1.32 billion, an increase of 14 per cent, the company said, adding that mobile monthly active users increased by 31 per cent to 1.07 billion as of June 30.
Facebook stock rose 4 per cent in extended trading following the announcement.
