The US-based Verint Systems, which provides software and hardware products for security, surveillance, and business intelligence, sees a huge potential in the Indian market for its surveillance systems.

“It is difficult to quantify the market . But, it’s booming. We are today proactively working on 10-15 projects with revenue of millions of dollars,” said Itai Elata, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, Homeland Security Systems Integration, Verint Systems, which clocked revenue of $850 million last year.

The company uses its own technology and third party technology to monitor critical infrastructure and prevent any untoward incident happening.

The company’s customers include HPCL, Kolkata Metro (video surveillance system in all stations), Hero Motors Corp and some of the leading pharmaceutical companies that have to comply with the requirements of the US Food and Drug Administration, he said.

It is working in Surat, known for its diamond trade, by installing a complete surveillance system to enhance public safety. Over 100 closed circuit television cameras continuously monitor major traffic junctions and critical entry and exit points in the city. In a span of 10 months since launching the surveillance system has helped book 1.09 lakh traffic offenders in the coverage area, he said.

Verint is now involved in similar projects in Pune, Gaya and Mumbai, he said.

Critical infrastructure requires monitoring to prevent any event that could potentially lead to a catastrophe. Technology can help reduce damage to infrastructure and maintain public order and safety.

Technology also identifies patterns of public and identify potential threats, he said.
