Videocon Mobile Phones will launch 3-4 models of both feature and smartphones in a broad range and at competitive pricesin the domestic market starting June, according to Jerold Chagas Pereira, business head.

The company will considerably increase its manufacturing, distribution and marketing strategies to break into the league of top five domestic mobile brands in the country, he told newspersons here today.

The increased production capacities at its plants in Hyderabad, Kolkata and Madurai will go on stream between August and December this year. Once fully operational, the capacity will go up to 2 million handsets per month from the existing 700,000 units produced at Aurangabad and Kashipur in Uttaranchal, Pereira said.

Videocon Mobiles wants to enter the markets of AP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in a big way in the near future. Its strong presence in Rajasthan, UP, Punjab, and Haryana will be strengthened further, Pereira added.

About the market, Pereira said the last three months have been a bit volatile and transitory for all players due to sudden jump in duties from 7 per cent to 13.6 per cent. The overall market has dropped after the budget. However, signs of growth and rise in demand for both feature and smart phones are showing and Videocon Mobiles wants to exploit them, he said.
