Videocon Telecom on Wednesday said it will offer double data benefit to its customers on all standard data packs by default.

The double data benefit will be applicable at night hours (midnight to 7 am), on all standard data packs starting at a price point of ₹13, and going up to ₹251, offering bundled data of 120 MB to 3GB respectively, the company said.

According to the company, majority of their data users comprise the youth segment, who use mobile data irrespective of the time of day. Around one-fifth (20 per cent) of data usage happens between midnight and 7 in the morning, and is growing on a monthly basis, it said.

Further, around 17 per cent of data users consume more than 50 per cent of their data during night hours. The network utilisation is low at night and hence customers would enjoy good data download speeds, that too free of cost, the company said.

“Data is the growth engine for the telecom industry, and it is imperative that there is enough and more traction on data offerings for customer engagement. Our double data offer is an initiative in the same direction. We are confident that this initiative will help us accelerate our data growth,” Arvind Bali, Director and CEO, Videocon Telecom, said.

Last year, the company grew its data business by 126 per cent, which is almost double the pace of the industry data growth at 74 per cent, he said.

“This initiative along with other micromarketing initiatives on data will help us surpass our growth of last year,” Bali added.

The company said the ‘double data’ initiative would further increase its overall data consumption by over 50 per cent and revenue by around 25 per cent in next the six months.

The growth will be driven by organic subscriber base growth, increase in data penetration by approximately six per cent, and data consumption per user per month, which the telco expects to go up by 20 per cent to 230 MB, its said.

The realisation per GB for data will, however, drop by around 20 per cent owing to the double data offer and other segmented offers, it added.
