Wipro Technologies has realigned its organisational structure in line with the changed business environment and tried to reduce complexities.

As part of this restructuring, Mr G.K. Prasanna has been named the head of Wipro's eco-energy business division, while Mr Srinivas Pallia and Mr K.R. Sanjiv get business application services and analytics, respectively.

The company has assigned pharmaceutical, healthcare and life sciences and services to Ms Sangita Singh, while Mr N.S. Bala gets manufacturing and hi-tech. All changes will be effective from April 1, 2011.

Mr T.K. Kurien, CEO, IT Business & Executive Director, Wipro Ltd, said, “The model that we have created now is centred on the customer...,” but Wipro has also left a lot of things unchanged. For example, energy and utilities (Mr Anand Padmanabhan), finance solutions (Mr Soumitro Ghosh), media and telecom (Mr Mark Fleming), and retail (Mr Bhanumurthy) are some of the divisions that have been left unchanged. Additionally, Mr Anand Sankaran continues to lead Wipro Infotech business division, while Mr Gangadharaiah CP, who currently heads the testing services, continues as an advisor for testing practice.

The other leaders of Wipro who continue to do what they did before include Mr Ashutosh Vaidya (BPO), Mr Ayan Mukerji (product engineering services), Mr Deepak Jain (technology infrastructure services) and Mr Kirk Strawser (Wipro Consulting Services).

More on the cards

“When restructuring, one should concentrate on the strategy and the customer focus. Here, the strategy angle is coming out clearly — Wipro will focus more on areas such as manufacturing, eco-energy and pharma,” analyst firm Everest Group's VP, global sourcing, Mr Amneet Singh, told Business Line .

He also added that this restructuring still leaves a lot of things in the dark. “Some things are not clear. For example, how will these verticals operate differently? Will they become more customer-centric now? Will the front-end activities change? The restructuring doesn't seem to answer these questions.”

Mr Singh also felt that this could only be an initial restructuring. “It could be a spaced-out organisational change. Maybe, more changes are coming down the line,” he said.
