As much as 31 per cent of the year’s largest offer of 19.02 lakh kg at Sale No: 20 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction remained unsold despite dropping prices by ₹ 2.14 a kg for want of bidders at high prices.
Only Darmona Estate tea entered the high-price bracket of ₹200 per kg among CTC teas. Its Super Red Dust grade, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, topped the CTC market when Om Enterprises bought it for ₹201 a kg.
Vigneshwar Estate and Hittakkal estate got ₹166 each. In all, 50 marks got ₹125 and more.
Havukal and Kairbetta topped orthodox teas from corporate sector fetching ₹240 each, followed by Chamraj ₹234, Glendale ₹183 and Prammas ₹171. In all, 33 marks got ₹125 and more.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹46-53 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-145 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹50-60 for plain dusts and ₹110-155 for brighter liquoring dusts.
There was some purchase for Pakistan in range ₹54-107 a kg.
