The rice market witnessed a mixed trend, though domestic demand remained sluggish. Prices of aromatic varieties decreased, while non-basmati varieties remained unchanged on Monday.

Sluggish demand against ample stocks led prices of aromatic rice down, said Mr Amit Chandna, proprietor of Hanuman Rice Trading Company. Prices of aromatic varieties may rule around current levels while non basmati varieties may witness some change this week, he added.

After ruling firm last weekend, prices of Pusa-1121 (steam) dropped by Rs 50 and were ruling around Rs 5,000 a quintal. Pusa-1121 (sela) dropped by Rs 20 and was at Rs 4,100-4,140 and Pusa-1121 (raw) ruled at Rs 4,975-5,000 a quintal.

Prices of duplicate basmati dropped by Rs 25 and quoted at Rs 3,650-3,775 a quintal. Pure basmati (raw) dropped by Rs 50 and ruled at Rs 6,500 a quintal.

Prices of the brokens of Pusa-1121 were ruling flat: Tibar was quoted at Rs 3,100-3,350, Dubar at Rs 2,400-2,625 and Mongra was at Rs 1,900-2,150.

With demand matching supply, non-basmati varieties ruled unchanged.

Sharbati (steam) quoted at Rs 3,100-3,200 and Sharbati (sela) ruled between Rs 2,900-2,990 a quintal.

PR-11 (sela) ruled at Rs 2,000-2,125 and PR-11 (raw) quoted at Rs 1,900-2,060 a quintal.
