Fresh buying lifted the prices of aromatic and non-basmati rice by Rs 20-100 a quintal after witnessing a drop last week.

Domestic demand pushed the prices of Pusa 1121, Sharbati and Permal rice varieties up while the other varieties managed to rule firm on their previous levels, said Mr Amit Chandna, proprietor of Hanuman Rice Trading Company.

Traders were expecting some good buying in this week and the market may continue to witness an uptrend, he added.

On Tuesday, prices of Pusa 1121(steam) rice rose by Rs 50 and ruled at Rs 5,150-5,400 a quintal, Pusa-1121(sela) increased by Rs 20 and was quoted at Rs 4,150-4,350, and Pusa-1121(raw) was at Rs 5,100.

Prices of duplicate basmati ruled flat and quoted at Rs 3,700-4,050 a quintal. Prices of Pure Basmati (Raw) ruled at Rs 7,400-7,500 a quintal.

Prices of short grain rice of both aromatic and non basmati varieties witnessed a good rally. For the brokens of Pusa 1121, Tibar was quoted at Rs 3,100-3,500, Dubar at Rs 2,400-2,650 and Mongra was at Rs 1,890-2,200.

Sharbati (steam) rose by Rs 100 and was quoted at Rs 3,050-3,200 while the Sharbati (Raw) was at Rs 2,800-2,975 a quintal.

Prices of PR-11 rose by 40-60 a quintal, PR-11 (sela) ruled at Rs 2,050-2,150 and PR-11(Raw) was quoted at Rs 2,050-2,200 a quintal. Permal (sela) quoted at Rs 1,700-1,935 a quintal while Permal (Raw) rose by Rs 80 and traded at Rs 1,850-2,000 a quintal.

For the brokens of Sharbati variety, Tibar was quoted at Rs 2,350-2,450, Dubar was at 2,100-2,200 and Mongra was at Rs 1,400-1,700.

The Government agencies and private millers procured around 9,17,295 tonnes of wheat till Monday evening.
