Following some good buying in the market, dara wheat prices went up by Rs 30 a quintal on Tuesday. After dropping to its lowest level of Rs 1,060 a quintal last week, dara has recovered this week and is ruling at Rs 1,090-1,100 a quintal.

Mr Sewa Ram, a wheat trader, told Business Line that though the Government has opened up exports, it hasn't made any impact here. This is only the domestic demand that led the prices upwards, he said. Flour mills are doing some buying as they have run out of stock, said Mr Ram.

Arrivals from Uttar Pradesh have also increased, around 500 quintals of dara variety arrived and the stocks were directly offloaded at the mills. Mill delivery was at Rs 1,090 a quintal.

Similarly, after witnessing a decline last week, desi wheat varieties recovered a little. Low stocks lifted Tohfa variety, prices went up by Rs 20 and quoted at Rs 2,150-2,160 a quintal, Maruti ruled at Rs 1,760 a quintal, Lal Quila increased by Rs 10 and sold at Rs 1,910, while Kangan was at Rs 1,930 a quintal, Rs 5 up from previous level. A little stock of Raj Bhog arrived and sold at Rs 1,800 a quintal.

On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for September delivery increased by Rs 3.60 to Rs 1,165 a quintal after touching a low at Rs 1,159 a quintal earlier on Tuesday.

Flour Prices

With an uptrend in wheat, flour prices rose by Rs 10 and quoted at Rs 1,160 for a 90-kg bag. On the other hand, Choker prices remained unchanged and sold at Rs 495-505 for a 49-kg bag.
