There was a spurt in arrivals at the Kochi tea Auction with 13,37,000 kgs of dust and 4,12,500 kgs of leaf tea on offer last week. Demand was evident at the CTC dust auction which opened on a steady note but weakened as the auction progressed. Plain CTC dust grades often quoted lower. AVT was quite active on good liquoring grades along with Kerala loose tea traders.

Tata Global and Kerala Civil Supplies Corporation lent fair amount of support. Hindustan Unilever and exporters operated at lower levels. Bulk of the offerings at the orthodox dust auction was absorbed by exporters and upcountry buyers.

Leaf Auction

High grown bolder broken, whole leaf and smaller broken grades were steady to firm at the orthodox leaf auction. Others were irregular to easier. Fannings were the strong feature of the orthodox leaf auction and they quoted Rs 10-15 higher and sometimes even more. Medium bolder broken grades sold at last weeks' levels. Secondaries quoted lower and there were many withdrawals from this segment. Traditional exporters and exporters to CIS countries were quite active. Exporters to Tunisia confined themselves to medium varieties. Tea bag exporters were also active in fannings grade. Hindustan Unilever lent support at the orthodox dust counters. There was fair demand at the CTC leaf auction where prices quoted lower with fair amount of withdrawals as the price dragged. Black and well made fannings were absorbed by exporters and upcountry buyers. Broken grades found demand from internal buyers and a few exporters.

Top Prices

Pasuparai SFD fetched the top price at the dust auction at Rs 131 followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 120, Chinnar SFD at Rs 115 and Pasuparai SRD at Rs 111. At the leaf auction Chamraj FOP fetched the top price at Rs 220 followed by Chamraj OP at Rs 213, Havukal BOPF at Rs 200 and Quinshola BP at Rs 170.
