The cheer created in the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association in the first two sales of 2019 continued in Sale No: 3 when the average price rose to the six-week high of ₹100.62 a kg.
Despite the price rise, about 80 per cent of the offer was absorbed due to higher demand from upcountry buyers arising from low supplies in North Indian teas.
Homedale Estate’s Peko Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire CTC market when Tea Services India P Ltd bought it for ₹262 a kg.
In the CTC Leaf tea auctions, Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹215 a kg.
Among orthodox teas, Corsley topped at ₹263 a kg followed by Chamraj ₹253, Kodanad ₹241, Kairbetta ₹240 and Havukal ₹201.
