Sugar prices were up by ₹10-20 a quintal at the Vashi wholesale market on Monday tracking firm trend led by higher volume at mill level. However, producers continued to sell at prevailing rates. Higher demand from neighbouring states amid routine local demand supported the sentiments, said sources.

Arrivals were at 36-38 truck loads (of 10 tonnes each) and local dispatches were at 37-38 loads. Inventories were at 75-80 truck loads. Freight rates were steady at ₹85-100 per bag.

On Saturday evening, 18-20 mills offered tenders and sold about 54,000-55,000 bags at ₹3,100-3,170 for S-grade and ₹3,170-3,250 for M-grade.

The Bombay Sugar Merchants Association spot rates (₹/quintal): S-grade 3,260-3,342 and M-grade 3,330-3,500. Naka delivery rates (₹/quintal): S-grade 3,220-3,260 and M-grade 3,270-3,350.
