Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets made further gains on Thursday on the back of higher demand.
“Local traders have received more orders from the merchants in North India. Local traders quoted marginally higher price. The demand for the hybrid variety is on the higher side and traders purchased more than 1,400 bags,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,196-6,666 a quintal; the root variety ₹3,173-6,143.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety fetched ₹5,791-7,330 and the root variety ₹5,399-6,410. Of the 1,816 bags that arrived, 809 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,419-6,674; the root variety ₹5,319-6,131. Of the 1,814 bags offered, 1,623 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,490-6,690 and the root variety ₹5,389-6,109. Of the 1,430 bags put up for sale, 1,245 found takers.
