A volume of 7.24 lakh kg has been catalogued for the Dust tea auction of Sale No: 48 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association scheduled for Friday. This together with 12.10 lakh kg Leaf grade takes the total volume offered to 19.34 lakh kg. This is some 12,000 kg more than the offer of last week. As much as 17.67 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.67 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 95,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 11.15 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 72,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.52 lakh kg, CTC. The Broken Orange Pekoe grade from Darmona Tea Factory, auctioned by J Thomas and Co., topped the leaf grade auction and the entire CTC market last week fetching ₹270 a kg. This was the fourth consecutive week of Darmona Tea topping the market. Homedale Estate’s two leaf grades, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹222 and ₹221. In the CTC Dust tea auction, Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹232. Two other grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹221 each.
