Spot pepper prices continued to rule hot as the availability has become tight even though there were reports of arrival of imported Sri Lankan pepper, according to market sources.
They told Business Line that Sri Lanka is selling old crop of 525 and 530 GL at $10,000/tonne. On the spot market, 12 tonnes of semi-processed pepper were sold at ₹720 a kg, while high range pepper was not available even at ₹730, they said.
Spot prices shot up by ₹600 to ₹72,000 (ungarbled) and ₹74,500 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices were at $12,750 (c&f) Europe and $13,000 a tonne (c&f) for the US.
