Spot turmeric prices increased on Friday at Erode markets on account of upcountry orders. “Traders received a few orders from North India and so they preferred the quality turmeric and purchased 55 per cent of the total stock of 3,200 bags placed for sale,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The hybrid finger variety was up by ₹400 a quintal and all the 400 bags were sold.At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹3,186-6,441 a quintal; the root variety ₹3,178-5,680.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,639-6,935 and the root variety ₹5,325-5,849. Of the 782 bags on sale, 231 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,585-6,799; the root variety ₹5,389-6,109. Of the 702 bags that arrived, 653 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,777-6,716 and the root variety ₹5,269-6,100. All the 593 bags found takers.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,290-6,633 and the root variety ₹4,981-5,942. All the 184 bags were sold.
