The arrival of turmeric has been increased on Tuesday. The upcountry demand is expected within a fortnight. “Further, we are expecting the arrival of the new Erode Turmeric by the first week of March, when abundant demand from North India may be received by the traders,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. He added that on Tuesday, 2,500 bags — including about 300 new turmeric bags — arrived for sale. The traders have purchased all the new turmeric and purchased a good amount of old turmeric for their local and few upcountry demands. Krishnamurthy, a trader, said that the prices of the new and old turmeric decreased from ₹250-500 a quintal due to quality. But the sale of turmeric was encouraging.
