Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange opened higher at Rs 30,952 per 10 grams on Wednesday against the previous close of Rs 30,948. The October contract was trading on the positive side at Rs 30,970 at 1 pm.
In Comex, gold was trading almost flat at $1,670 a troy ounce.
But the gains were limited as rupee is on a depreciating trend against dollar since morning. Major movement in gold prices is expected in the evening session when the US will release its key economic data.
Dollar may strengthen on positive GDP numbers to be posted by the US and improvement in labour and housing sectors. This will put pressure on gold prices during the trading session in the evening.
