Banking sector stocks held on to their firm undertone near the close of trading on the BSE on Tuesday.
At 2.35 pm ICICI Bank was the top gainer, trading a shade up on its morning levels. It was quoting at ₹1,390, a gain of 3.40 per cent on its previous close of ₹1,344.30.
State Bank of India also built on its morning levels to trade at ₹2,493.30. This represented a gain of 3.37 per cent on yesterday's close at ₹2,412.10.
Axis Bank rode up 1.89 per cent at ₹1,881.55. The stock had ended Tuesday’s session at ₹1,846.70.
BHEL edged down a shade to hold gains of 1.83 per cent at ₹230.50. The stock finished yesterday’s session at ₹226.35.
M&M was trading firm at ₹1,188.10. This represented a 1.83 per cent gain on its previous close of ₹1,598.65.
