With the markets on a roll, stocks of automobile companies were back in the reckoning with gains spread among both four-wheeler and two-wheeler manufacturers.

The CNX Auto index was among the biggest sectoral gainers, up by about 162 points. Bajaj Auto was the only auto index stock to trade in the red in the morning session.

Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra rallied by ₹34.75 to ₹1,247, a gain of 2.87 per cent. Hero Motocorp vaulted by ₹68.15 to trade at ₹3,133.80. Tata Motors, with a gain of ₹12.15 at ₹497.05, Maruti, which jumped by ₹47.65 to ₹3432.95, and Eicher Motors, which surged by ₹342.25 to ₹ 14,770.15, also joined the party.

Bajaj Auto was down marginally at ₹2,499.30, a loss of ₹3.85. Of the 15 auto index shares, 14 were in the green.

The auto ancillary stocks also shone with Motherson Sumi Systems, Amara Raja Batteries and MRF, among the major gainers.
