Idea Cellular emerged the top gainer on the NSE by the close on Wednesday. At 3.40 pm it was trading at Rs 175.20 as against Rs 172.45 at close on Tuesday. This represented a gain of 1.59 per cent.
The share posted gains amidst a sell-off in the market on fears that the country was facing its first drought in six years and RBI's cautious statement on inflation. The BSE Sensex dropped over 430 points to fall below the 27,000 level, while the NSE Nifty declined over 120 points to hold above the 8,100 mark.
Coal India shed some of its morning gains to trade at Rs 387.25 as against Rs 383.50 at close yesterday. This was a gain of 0.98 per cent.
Bharti Airtel was up 0.62 per cent at Rs 420.70 as against Rs 418.10 at close on Tuesday.
Infosys gained 0.61 per cent at Rs 2,020.90 as against Rs 2,008.65 at close overnight.
Bank of Baroda was the only public sector lender among the top gainers, quoting at Rs 161.25 as against Rs 160.40 at close yesterday. This represented a gain of 0.53 per cent.
