Steel stocks were top gainers on BSE today.
Bhushan Steel jumped 5.5 per cent, Tata Steel rose 3.6 per cent and Jindal Steel and Power gained 3.3 per cent. State-run Steel Authority of India was up 3.2 per cent.
Steel stocks were the top gainers in BSE ‘A’ group stocks.
According to analysts, duty on minimum import price (MIP) or increase in MIP is expected in next few weeks.
India had on Monday initiated safeguard on plates and sheets on Thursday.
The country is ready to impose more curbs on steel imports.
India had in September imposes 20 per cent import tax on some steel imports which failed to contain the losses for producers.
November imports declined 6.9 per cent to 0.76 mt marking their first decline in almost eight months, the analysts added.
