The credit outlay for Dharwad district has been fixed at Rs 1,861 crore for the financial year 2011-12, an increase of 9.84 per cent, over previous year's (2010-11) Rs 1,694.26 crore.

This year's emphasis is on for ground level credit flow under agricultural activities to achieve 4 per cent agricultural growth during the 11th Five Year Plan.

The Dharwad district credit plan 2011-12 has been prepared by Lead District Manager (Vijaya Bank) based on the potential-linked credit plan prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).

According to Mr Y N Mahadevaiah, Assistant General Manager-Nabard, “The district credit plan has been prepared with an aim of serving 183,831 people in the district and also major emphasis is given on agricultural loans (short/long term) keeping in view the interest subvention schemes launched by both state and central governments.”

“This year's plan is consolidated by lead bank (Vijaya Bank) into taluk credit plans and got approved during the taluk-level bankers' committee meet held in all the five taluks with upward/downward revisions and further aggregated into district credit plan 2011-12,” he added.

District plan highlight

Priority sector will see an increase by 11.02 per cent at Rs 1,564.95 crore with an aim to cover 158,164 people for the financial year 2011-12 against Rs 1,409.49 crore fixed in the previous year.

Under priority sector advances, the primary sector is agriculture and is the major activity of the district. Banks have made an allocation of Rs 796.53 crore to this sector and it amounted to 18 per cent increase over previous year's projection of Rs 676.14 crore.

Allocation for crop loans under agriculture has increased by 24 per cent at Rs 599.65 crore against Rs 482.85 crore fixed last year. There has been cut in allocation for minor irrigation to Rs 7.16 crore against Rs 11.31 crore last year.

For land development activity, Rs 15.51 crore has been set aside against Rs 15.04 crore fixed last year. The major land development works are being planned in Dharwad and Navalgund taluks. Under farm mechanisation, a moderate plan of Rs 87.86 crore has been planned against Rs 96.65 crore fixed last year.

National Horticulture Mission (NHM) is in various stages of implementation in the district (since August 2007). For this, an allocation of Rs 8.52 crore has been made. For miscellaneous agricultural activity, Rs 16.30 crore has been set aside against previous year's Rs 10.84 crore. This is expected to cover 2,516 farmers for creation of assets for agricultural activity not covered under any other category.

Under allied agricultural activities: Dairy – a sum of Rs 21.10 crore has been allocated as against Rs 9.21 crore last year. Poultry – an allocation of Rs 4.22 crore has been made. Sheep and goat - Rs 1.08 crore has been fixed and for other allied activities, an allocation of Rs 0.20 crore for forestry, Rs 0.10 crore for fisheries, and Rs 33.02 crore for storage and market yard has been made for 2011-12.
