The Hubli region of Syndicate Bank has formed 560 joint liability groups (JLGs) and of these more than 250 JLGs have already been credit-linked, said Mr G.C Mishra, General Manager, Syndicate Bank, PSCD, Bangalore.

Speaking at the “Launching of joint liability groups” at Hulkoti near Gadag, Mr Mishra said the loans given by the bank to the members of joint liability groups will be repaid as in the case of self help groups. Mr Srikanth B. Kulagod, Assistant General Manager, Syndicate Bank, Hubli Region, who presided over the function, said, “Through its various schemes, the Hubli region of the bank has lent more than Rs 866 crore to agriculture.”

“There are 56 branches spread over four districts – Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Shimoga, which have formed 560 JLGs, and over 250 groups have been credit linked to the tune of Rs 1.3 crore,” he added.

The bank plans to give financial assistance to the remaining groups and has set a target that by March 31, the region will achieve formation of 1,000 groups.

Mr N.V. Chandrasekar, Joint Director - Agriculture Department, Gadag, who was the chief guest, informed farmers of the various benefits available from the agricultural department and appreciated the efforts of Syndicate Bank in targeting poor farmers through JLG approach. At Hulkoti, more than 400 JLG members from Laxmeshwar, Sidenur, Byahatti, Sulla, Nargund, Mundargi, Hulkoti, Aladakatti, Gejjihalli, and about 1,000 progressive farmers from various branches participated in the programme. Mr Gopal Bhandiwad, Senior Manager (RD), Mr C. Venugopal, Chief Manager, and Mr D.G. Hegde, Branch Manager, Hulkoti, were present.
