Punjab National Bank has adopted the Chennam (Pallipuram) village in Alappuzha district under its “PNB Vikas” scheme to provide banking facilities to the villagers according to the Financial Inclusion Plan.
Under this, the bank is expected to be instrumental of change by coordinating various activities in the area of human development, economic development and infrastructure development projects according to the needs of the village.
Mr K.V. Rajesh, Bank's Circle Head, formally handed over the village adoption papers to Ms T.K. Sasikala, President, Chennam Grama Panchayath. She said that the panchayat will cooperate with the bank in its endeavour to make the village adoption programme meaningful.
Mr K.R. Vaidyanathan, District Lead Bank Manager, who was the Chief Guest, pointed out that a recent study conducted by the State-Level Bankers' Committee and Government of India, among all the public sector banks, revealed that Punjab National Bank's contribution towards financial inclusion stood No 1.
Out of the bank's target of adopting 1,500 villages in the country under the Financial Inclusion Plan as on March 31, PNB has already covered more than 1,250 villages as on date, which is commendable, he said.
By the adoption of Chennam village, all the unbanked villages are now covered under the Financial Inclusion in Alappuzha district, he added.
Mr K. Krishnan, Deputy Manager, Marketing, PNB, briefed the history of the bank and its latest initiatives. Mr V.R. Muralikrishnan, Branch Manager, proposed vote of thanks.
