The first two phases of cable TV digitisation led to the installation of nearly 3 crore set-top-boxes and will lead to manifold increase in tax collections. Already, preliminary data indicate that State Governments have witnessed two-to-three fold increase in entertainment tax collections. The Survey also pointed out the opportunity for local manufacturing of STBs leading to employment generation. Also the Survey said that Headend-in-the-Sky (HITS) technology will play a key role in achieving the goal of 100 per cent digital distribution in India.
