30 Covid patients died in Tamil Nadu, the highest number in a single day today, taking the total number of deaths due to the virus to 397.
Today, 1,989 positives cases were reported in the State to take the total affected to 42,687. In Chennai alone, 1,484 cases were reported.
However, on the positive side, for the third consecutive day today, over 1,000 Covid-19 patients were discharged after getting treatment.
With 1,362 patients getting discharged today, the total number of persons who got treated increased to 23,409. This leaves the number of active cases at 18,878.
The total samples tested today was 17,911, according to a Health ministry bulletin.
Meanwhile, 2,000 nurses were recruited to augment workforce for Covid management. They will join duty immediately and serve for six months on a contractual basis. State Government will provide food and accommodation to them, said a tweet by Health Minister C Vijayabaskar.
