The Delhi Government’s revenue collection on liquor sales has registered an impressive 19 per cent growth in the first six months of the current fiscal as compared to the corresponding period in 2011-12.
The Government has collected Rs 1,287 crore as excise tax between April 1 and September 27 against its collection of Rs 1,102 crore in the same period in 2010-11.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who also holds the finance portfolio, in her budget speech had set a target of collecting Rs 3,000 crore from liquor sale in 2012-13.
Revenue Department officials said they are confident of meeting the target. This income stream rose significantly after the Government made bar codes on liquor bottles mandatory in 2010 in order to plug revenue loopholes.
