Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific has decided to launch a Hindi entertainment channel in the non-fiction genre called ID-Investigation Discovery. The company has also decided to expand its high-definition (HD) offering by adding TLC HD and Animal Planet HD.

This takes the company’s total channel tally to 11.

Rahul Johri EVP and General Manager – South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said: “We will initially bank on our global pipeline of content and eventually the channel will also have local content.”

He said digitisation had provided an opportunity to broadcasters to launch new channels that can offer a wide variety of content to Indian consumers.

Discovery Networks hopes with its Hindi channel the company will be able to offer differentiated content in the Hindi language entertainment space.
