With auto sales yet to stabilise, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has said October is the month to watch out for as festival demand is expected to give a boost to sales.
For the April-September quarter in 2014, domestic sales of passenger vehicles increased 4.25 per cent to 1,252,318 from 1,201,254 in the same period last year. The sale of two-wheelers grew 16.41 per cent from 7,017,404 in the April-September quarter last year to 8,169,286 in the corresponding period this year.
The three-wheeler category also grew 17.8 per cent but the commercial vehicles segment fell 10.14 per cent in the said period.
For September 2014, the passenger cars segment took a hit as sales fell from 1,56,494 units in September last year to 1,54,882 in the same month this year, said Vishnu Mathur, Director-General, SIAM. This is the first decline in the last four months, he added.
