There is a need for ensuring self-regulation of the industry in pollution norms, according to Jayesh Ranjan, Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC ).
Speaking at a seminar on environmental laws, regulations and the role of industry organised by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Fappci ) and Jeedimetla Effluent Treatment Ltd here on Tuesday, he said involvement in visible environmental protection would also help the industry .
"I also suggest that industries should allow the third party environmental audit which will promote trust and transparency,'' Ranjan added.
Venkat Jasti, Chief Executive Officer, Seven Life Sciences and Chairman of Environmental Committee, Fapcci, said there is a need to align environmental standards with the level and requirements of economic development in specific regions/states. Review of existing regulation in line with the national policy was needed along with encouragement to industrial clusters, he added.
G Krishna Bapaiah Chowdary, Chairman of Jeedemetla Effluent Treatment, said there was no knowledge of about 25 acts related to various environmental norms.
