Brand USA, the destination marketing organisation of the US, is seeking to woo Indian tourists offering them to explore non-traditional gateway cities.

Growing at a strong double-digit rate year-on-year, the number of visitors has swelled past the 1.17-million mark and is projected to grow with millennials holding immense promise. Significantly, it is seeking to innovate by presenting new destinations, by packaging information through new initiatives such as music trails.

Sunil Puri, Joint Managing Director, Brand USA, said: “Of the 25-million outbound travellers from India, about 1.17 million visited the US in 2016. We believe there is huge potential to increase this number offering them tailor-made packages.”

“Traditionally, on the East Coast, New York, Washington DC, Niagara have been attractive for visitors and on the East, it is Los Angeles, San Francisco, among others. We are keen that leisure travellers visit new locations,” he said.

Puri told BusinessLine that a number of initiatives have been planned to attract not just leisure traveller but also those looking at meeting, conventions and incentives. As a part of this, efforts have been made to present exciting packages such as 'Music Trails', which seeks to promote popular destinations, he said.

“We have been engaging and also training the travel and tourism industry players, familiarising them with what can be offered for a leisure traveller to the US. Then, we are also seeking to woo a large community of corporate houses who reward their employees and families with tours,” he said.
