Chennai will soon get two charging stations for electric two-wheelers and e-auto rickshaws. The project is funded by German firms iPLON, GmbH and German Energy Agency Dena. iPLON India will be implementing the project in Chennai.
Aarthy Vigneshwari, Project Engineer, iPLON India told BusinessLine : “Though there is traction in electric vehicles, lack of infrastructure is an impediment in popularising the product.”
The proposal for the project is in the final stages of approval by Dena. It is likely to be commissioned by January 2018, and will be operational by the end of 2018. The stations will be at Mylapore and Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, T Nagar. Around ₹20 lakh will be invested in the project, including solar panels, components, and e-bikes and e-rickshaws for testing.
The charging stations will have the capacity of 7 KW each, with roof-top solar panels for generating power. .
