For the first time, over 1,000 Covid patients were discharged following treatment in Tamil Nadu. After 1,008 patients discharged today, the number of recovered persons in the State increased to 19,333, leaving the number of active cases at 17,179.
However, the State witnessed the highest single-day spike of 1,927 positive cases, including 30 returnees. This is the fourth consecutive day when over 1,500 positive cases were reported in the State to take the tally past 36,000 to 36,841.
In Chennai alone, 1,390 persons were infected today to take the total past the 25,000-mark to 25,937.
Chengalpattu witnessed another increase with 182 new cases, followed by Tiruvallur with 105 and Kancheepuram with 33. The balance positive cases were reported across other districts, including Madurai, Tiruvannamali, Thoothukudi and Ranipet.
On Wednesday, 19 Covid patients died, taking the total dead to 326.
A total of 17,675 samples were tested, says a Health Ministry bulletin.
