To meet the office space demands of Central government departments, Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has built around a 19,585-sq mt (ground plus 12-storeyed) building in the heart of Bengaluru at Domlur.

“The new building, built at a cost of ₹78 crore, will accommodate offices of 30 Central government departments,” said PK Naidu, Superintending Engineer, CPWD.

“This fully air-conditioned RCC framed building has come up on a plot of around 5,000 sq mt. Earlier, 96 Type C quarters were existing on this plot which were in a dilapidated condition and were structurally unsafe. They were demolished for the construction of the new office complex,” Naidu said.

A Central Government General Pool office complex named Kendriya Sadan, having a built up area of around 26,000 sq mt has been functioning at Koramangala since 1994.

The new rectangular-shaped building is oriented along the East-West axis and is green building-compliant, Naidu said. “The longer side of the building is facing north and south sides. The north side of the building is provided with glass façade made up of double glazed units to harness maximum natural light,” he said.

“The double glazed units made of soft coated reflective glass will ensure least amount of heat is penetrated into the building thus resulting a better thermal comfort to the occupants while reducing the head load on AC units,” he added.

There is a provision for solar power generation of 20 KWP. Three-tier mechanised car parking is being provided in the basement where 156 cars can be parked.
