The Centre on Friday announced the establishment of the National Research Foundation and the Study in India programme along with the allotment of additional funds amounting to ₹400 crore towards higher education.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a range of new initiatives to optimise the education sector. The total government expenditure on education for FY19-20 is estimated at ₹94,854 crore, with ₹56,536 crore and ₹38,317 crore being allotted to the Department of School Education and Literacy and the Department of Higher Education, respectively.
Sitharaman further announced the introduction of new National Education Policy, driven by research and innovation centered around the development of science and technology in the country.
‘National Research Foundation’ will help in managing government grants and promoting research among the youth.
