For the first time in more than two decades, the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), organised a nine-day long Induction Programme for the new 39th batch of the two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM).

The institute invited leading business personality, Pankaj Dubey, Country Head and Managing Director of Polaris India, the Indian arm of the US-based all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) maker, Polaris, to deliver the commencement speech for the newly inducted students.

In his address to the students, Dubey emphasised on 'Dreaming big to achieve success’ by recalliing IRMA founder, Dr. Verghese Kurien’s vision in his memorable autobiography I Too Had A Dream .

"Elimination of poverty from India by 2040 is my dream. That can only be achieved through the growth of the rural economy," said Dubey, underlining the significance of rural markets in the country's overall growth.

In order to increase the pace of growth for the country, transformation through youth is imperative by reviving the entrepreneurial spirit, Dubey added. The commencement speech by an industry leader is a new feature of IRMA’s much-hailed Induction Programme, which was flagged off on July 2.

It involves orienting students to the institute, its mission, and values. The main thrust of the programme is the Induction Fieldwork, which involves stay for a few days in a village for initiation purposes and for demystifying romantic myths about rural life, the institute Director, Hitesh Bhatt, informed.
